Amateur boxer Alice Kate Aparri’s strong performance completed a 4-gold medal haul for the Philippines on Day 9 of the 26th Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia.
Amateur boxer Josie Gabuco and the men’s and women’s softball teams won the other gold medals for the Philippines.
According to ABS-CBN News correspondent TJ Manotoc, Aparri used her range to dominate Malaysian Thet Htar San in the finals of the light flyweight category. She won, 20-4.
Pin weight Gabuco was also successful against Trinh Thi Diem Kie of Vietnam in the gold medal round.
The Philippine women’s softball team, meanwhile, defeated its counterpart from Thailand in the gold medal round to finish 1st.
The scores were 6-0 in favor of the Filipina batters.
The Philippine men’s team also dominated Team Indonesia, 7-3, to take home the gold medal.
The Philippines, currently at 6th overall, now has 23 gold, 42 silver and 59 bronze medals.
Indonesia remains on the lead with 138 gold, 110 silver and 102 bronze medals.
Thailand (84-76-93) is just 5 gold medals ahead of Vietnam (79-76-78). Malaysia is running 4th with 47-43-64, followed by Singapore at 5th place (39-41-70).
Completing the medal standing list are Laos (8-6-27), Myanmar (7-19-25), Cambodia (3-10-14), Brunei (0-2-7) and Timor Leste (0-0-3).
