Rookie Kim Lao of TBAM-Prima-RP National and Kuwaiti striker Jassim Darwish produced spectacular rounds Tuesday to bag the girls’ and boys’ Youth Masters titles, respectively in the 37th Philippine International Open tenpin bowling championships at SM Bowling Center-Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
The 16-year-old Lao left no doubt about her ability to make it big in the sport by shooting a 10-game series of 2257 to pull away from PBAP-Prima-RP National’s Lara Posadas (2138) and TBAM-Prima-RP National’s Krizziah Tabora (2113).
Lao waxed hot from the start, rolling games of 240, 205, 217, 209, 237, 286, 208, 181, 247 and 227 for an average of 226.
Darwish was even hotter, flirting with perfect games three times en route to a commanding 10-game series of 2494 for a 249 average in the boys’ competition.
Darwish delighted the fans with big games of 289, 283, 280, 276, 255 and 246 to rout teammate Mohamed Khaled (2268) and TBAM-Prima-PJB’s Jayson Tubid (2223).
Darwish’s other games were 221, 216, 214, and 214.
Defending champions Liza del Rosa of TBAM-Prima and Hong Kong’s Wu Siu Hong showed the way in the Open Masters’ eliminations of the tourney organized by the Philippine Bowling Congress and supported by Ebonite International, Boysen Paints, Globe Telecoms, Department of Tourism, SM Bowling Center-MOA, Pagcor, Amway Phils., PCSO, Columbia, Track, Hammer, Air21, RCBC and Heritage Hotel Manila.
Del Rosario posted a four-game series of 932 to move ahead of TBAM-Prima-RP National’s Dyan Coronacion (916) and TBAM-Prima National’s Krizziah Tabora (904) in the women’s division, while Wu carded 1063, also in four games, to lead TBAM-Prima-Timberpro-RP National’s Paulo Valdez (1028) and MTBA-Henrich-RP National’s Raoul Miranda (1028) in the men’s group.
