Ramiro Cano, also known as Rambo, is coming to get Manny Pacquiao.

Fighting out of Texas, Cano, who fights in the super-lightweight and welter classes, will be brought to the Wild Card Boxing Club next week to help in toughing Pacquiao for his crack at David Diaz’s World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight crown on June 28 in Las Vegas.

Mike Koncz, a native Canadian who is one of Pacquiao’s closest advisers, said the 29-year-old Cano will be a welcome addition to Pacquiao’s training camp.

Cano, a native Mexican who now calls Houston his home, currently holds a 20-2 win-loss slate with 15 knockouts. He was given the nickname Rambo owing to his intensity and aggression atop the ring. In his last outing last April, Cano fought in the middleweight class.

The decision to tap Cano as one of the sparring partners is to allow Pacquiao to go all-out in his deliver of blows since Pacquiao has a track record of holding his punches when he feels the sparring partner won’t be able to endure the punishment.

Presently, Wild Card guru Freddie Roach has Mexican lightweight Steve Quinones and British welter Gary McMillan working as sparring partners for Pacquiao and on Thursday, they sparred a combined seven rounds after going five rounds with the Filipino last Tuesday.

“Manny’s training is going great,” said Koncz, who accompanied the 29-year-old Pacquiao during Wednesday’s promotional tour in Chicago.

Koncz added that the proposed tour of San Francisco on May 28 has been moved to May 31. The last stop of the promotional tour will be San Diego.

Diaz, who dislikes training disruptions, will also be flown in from Chicago to spice up the event at the Bay Area as part of the agreement under Top Rank.

During the highly-successful Chicago press conference-cum-pep rally, the 31-year-old Diaz skipped his early-afternoon workout but showed up at the JABB Gym later in the day to make sure his training doesn’t skip even a single beat.

As Pacquiao flew over the American heartland on board the chartered flight Million Air on his way back to Los Angeles, Diaz worked out a sweat under the watchful eyes of trainer Jim Strickland, who believes his ward has what it takes to retain the WBC 135-lb title when hostilities kick off at Mandalay Bay.

The heavy underdog, Diaz has expressed confidence that he will succeed in repulsing Pacquiao’s challenge “as he (Pacquiao) is a human being just like I am and he’s got two arms and I got two arms as well.”

Pacquiao, who weighs 144 lbs and plans to get down to 139 by next week, was also stingy with his words as he refused to make a prediction and instead promised boxing fans of an entertaining bout.
