With divergent opinions as to whether or not Floyd Mayweather Jr. would make the perfect year end foe for Manny Pacquiao, Top Rank chief Bod Arum has decided to look at yet another face — a possible, another weight division.

The 80-year-old American promoter said Pacquiao could be ranged against junior middleweight Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. late this year in what could be another classic Philippines-Mexico clash.

Arum came up with the idea in an interview with boxingscene.com after Chavez recently decisioned Luciano Cuello in 10 rounds after going toe-to-toe at times with his testy foe.

Asked who Chavez was being penciled to fight next, Arum said: “As far as opponents go, there is John Dudy and there is Oscar Dela Hoya, if he continues to fight. And there is a third, which is a little different because of the size difference but it would be the biggest fight of the year, Julio Chavez vs. Manny Pacquiao, Mexico vs Philippines.”

Pacquiao is training at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles for his May 2 bout against Briton Ricky Hatton and trainer Freddie Roach said his ward is now in top shape.

Roach has said that a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao is not exactly the best option after the British fighter.
