rudyThe next three weeks will be important and may be the most crucial for former PBA great Rudy District who is detained at a Nevada prison for killing a Mexican national in 2004.

“Right now, he has a parole hearing. It will be discussed in three weeks time what will be the result if approved by parole or not. So we pray that Rudy will return. Let’s just say, another participation or new life in the new society that he’s in, “said Abe King, chairman of the PBA Legends USA Foundation.

According to King, he and other former players of the Philippine Basketball Association who are now living in the United States have banded together for the former cager, who was known as “The Destroyer” during his PBA days.

King, now a Seattle, Washington resident, said he and PBA Legends secretary-general Ruffy Ignacio are listed as Distrito’s guardians while the former cager is in prison.

He added that PBA Legends members are helping District’s family.

“Ultimo his family is in our inaalalayan …. if any things that help us,” King said.

District was sentenced to four to 12 years in prison for the 2004 killing of Juan Amaya.

The parole board should decide in District’s favor, he will be immediately deported to the Philippines since he was an illegal alien when he killed the Mexican.

King’s update on District’s case followed unconfirmed reports that the former Ginebra guard committed suicide while in prison. The reports, as it turned out, were false.

Meanwhile, King joined PBA living legend and former senator Robert “Sonny” Jaworski and other PBA Legends Foundation members in a medical and dental mission in East area in Barangay Dela Paz in Antipolo City in Rizal province on Saturday.

“The PBA Legends USA Foundation is always thinking of these things to restore at least the fans to help us, what those who made them for us,” King said he, former basketball stars and the local government of Antipolo received hundreds of village residents who had free medical and dental examinations and haircuts.

King said that PBA Legends members now based in the U.S. are always open to the idea of helping their less fortunate countrymen. He said the Antipolo mission is just one of the many projects line up by the group, adding that other Venues in the provinces have been set for later dates.
