PBA broadcaster ABC 5 is reportedly weighing its options on whether to bid again to retain the TV broadcasting rights for the country’s most popular sports league after getting signals that the PBA is looking for a new carrier.
ABC’s five-year relationship with the PBA will end after the current Fiesta Conference and the league has started to accept bids from networks and other interested parties.
An ABC source who requested not to be identified, said the PBA sent what seemed like a perfunctory notice to the television station but minus details such as guidelines on what the league wants for the coverage.
“They were given little time to prepare,” the source said.
The source added that ABC will decide within the week if it will participate in the bidding.
The network paid PBA a total of P70 million this season.
Network giants ABS-CBN and GMA 7 have reportedly expressed interest to acquire the TV rights with having the inside track to get the TV rights, other sources said.
