MANILA, Philippines – Former national standout Richie Poblete came close to scoring the first perfect game in the 39th Philippine International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships at the Paeng’s Midtown Bowl at the Robinson’s Place in Ermita, Manila Monday night.
But for the 10th straight day of competitions, the lanes proved unyielding as Poblete settled for a 299 in the third game of his three-game series after missing the head pin in the12th and final frame. Legendary Filipino bowler Rafael “Paeng” Nepomuceno proved to be a big hit at a diplomats’ bowling tournament in Turkey last weekend, helping raise a “modest sum” for victims of recent typhoons back home.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Nepomuceno was the center of attraction in two bowling tilts last December 5 and 6, highlight of the celebration of six decades of RP-Turkey ties. Read the rest of this entry »
Filipino bowling legend Paeng Nepomuceno is not done winning accolades.
