MANILA, Philippines – Bob Arum isn’t just looking at another opponent but a new venue as well just in case Manny Pacquiao’s superfight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. doesn’t happen in November.

Preparations for Tarlac province’s hosting of the 2010 Palarong Pambansa are all in place as the youth games opens on Sunday, April 11, in the town of San Jose.
The Palarong Pambansa, an annual national scholastic competition by 17 regional athletic delegations – will be held from April 11 to 17.

The animosity that exists between Manny Pacquiao‘s promoter, Bob Arum, and Floyd Mayweather Jr.‘s camp extends to MGM/Mirage, the company that operates the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
That arena will be dark Saturday night, when it could have been the site of Pacquiao’s world welterweight title defense against Joshua Clottey.
The Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, is national sports complex of the Philippines, located on Pablo Ocampo St. (formerly Vito Cruz St.), Malate, Manila. It is named after the country’s national hero, José Rizal.

Formerly the Manila Carnival Grounds, the RMSC was built in 1934 for the Far Eastern Championship Games, a precursor to the Asian Games. It was destroyed during World War II, and reconstructed in 1953 for use in the 1954 Asian Games.
The complex was renovated in 2005. The National Stadium, the centerpiece of the sports complex, has a maximum seating capacity of 30,000. The complex also houses the administrative office of the Philippine Sports Commission, and quarters for the Philippine national athletes.

Las Vegas has finally crossed the finish line to land the March 13 mega fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, sources close to both fighters said Saturday.
The MGM Grand Garden, despite a seating capacity of only 16,200, appears to have won out over the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which could seat 100,000 for the bout. Read the rest of this entry »
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has turned down the bid of the famed Araneta Coliseum to stage the Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr super fight claiming that in the first place Mayweather won’t agree to fight in the Philippines.
George “Nene” Araneta, owner of the famed coliseum that played host to the “Thrilla in Manila” between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier on October 1, 1975 had requested us to inquire from Arum what it would take to stage the fight in Manila and to provide him a number in terms of the cost.

While Bob Arum talks to Manny Pacquiao in the Philippines about accepting a deal to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr., the stage is being set for another battle, one to make sure the fight is in Las Vegas, be it March 13 or May 1.
The MGM Grand Garden, which was thought to be considered too small at 16,200 seats, now might be the favorite to host the fight because the hotel has the capacity to bring in another 15,000 through closed-circuit telecast seats in its convention center and ballrooms.
Arum has indicated he would like to see the fight in Las Vegas, where he and Mayweather live, and where his Top Rank promotional company is headquartered. Read the rest of this entry »
