Adamson took advantage of a series of late errors to dethrone defending champion University of Santo Tomas (UST), 5-3, Sunday and snatch the UAAP Season 70 baseball crown at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
The Falcons, last season’s runner-up, took the title scoring three runs from three UST errors in a furious eighth inning that saw them come back from a one-run deficit.
The Orlando Binarao-mentored Falcons lost Game 2, 8-5, Friday after leading, 5-1, only to commit three errors in the eighth inning that led to four runs to tie the game.
The Tigers got the go-ahead in the ninth, also from an Adamson error. Adamson won Game 1, 6-3.
It was the school’s first baseball title since 2002.
UST led, 3-2, entering the eighth inning but Marvin Malig made a sacrifice groundout scoring Gian Llaguno, who reached third after a throwing error by UST third baseman Chun Wang Song.
Adamson scored the go-ahead run after an errant throw to third by catcher Ivan Gabay that gave third baserunner Edward Landicho a free path to home plate.
Adamson scored once more on an error giving Richard Siacor the insurance run.
Romeo Jasmin, who was adjudged as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, pitched a complete game allowing four runs in 10 hits—more than enough to take the win.
UST got the bulk of the individual awardees. Chun Wang Song got the Most Home Run, Most
RBIs (Run-Batted-In) and Rookie of the Year awards. Israel Ona was the Best Hitter and Best Slugger and Jon Jon Robles, the Best Pitcher.
Mark Robert Seno of the University of the Philippines (UP) took the Most Stolen Base trophy.
