At the Coliseo Olimpico de la UG in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Omar Nino Romero (28-3, 11KOs) and Rodel Mayol (26-4, 20KOs) fought to a three round technical draw. Mayol keeps his WBC junior flyweight title.

The ending was very controversial and the announcers, at first, called Romero the winner by TKO.

MANILA, Philippines – Filipino-American mixed martial artists Brandon “The Truth” Vera and Mark “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” Muñoz are set to slug it out at The Octagon in the coming months in separate Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) events.

The 32-year-old Vera headlines UFC Live: Vera vs Jones on March 21 at the 1STBANK Center (formerly Odeum Colorado) in Broomfield, Colorado. He will face 22-year-old Jon “Bones” Jones.

“Fighter of the Decade” Manny Pacquiao eased up in his training grind on Wednesday as he returned to the track at the LA High School.

After a hard workout in the morning trainer Freddie Roach asked him to ease up and have a light workout in the Wild Card Gym in preparation for what conditioning expert Alex Ariza said “will be a long sparring session tomorrow (Thursday in LA.)”

Ariza told us that “everything is going really well” and that Wednesday was the first day that Pacquiao “went to the track after the leg injury last weekend and he looks a hundred percent.” Read the rest of this entry »

The leadup to the WBO welterweight (147 pounds) title defense of seven-division champion, Manny Pacquiao, against former welterweight king, Joshua Clottey (pictured above), on March 13 will be the focus of Road To Dallas: Pacquiao vs. Clottey, which will premiere on HBO’s various channels on March 6.

The 30-minute special will analyze the upcoming bout, which will take place at The Dallas Cowboys’ Stadium in Arlington, Tex., as Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38 knockouts) looks to earn his 12th straight victory, and his ninth stoppage during time.

MANILA, Philippines — Filipina gymnast Amanda Louise Alejandrino wants to rejoin the national gymnastics team and get the chance to represent the Philippines in an Olympic qualifier next year.

Her US coaches are planning to have her compete in the World Championships in 2011 and land a spot in the Top 30. This will qualify her to compete in the 2012 London Olympics.

asian games 2010THE Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) announced over the weekend that 27 national sports associations (NSA) have already submitted their lists of candidates for membership in the national delegation to the coming Asian Games this November in Guangzhou, China.

POC spokesperson and Asian Games chief-of-mission Joey Romasanta said the deadline was actually set February 15 on the teams that will form the national training pool but was extended until last Friday (February 19) to give way for other NSAs to comply.

Beermen grab 3rd placeLed by veterans Danny Ildefonso and Danny Seigle San Miguel Beer’s reserve made a splash Wednesday night as the Beermen held off Barangay Ginebra, 95-88, to claim the second runner-up trophy in the KFC PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao underwent the required pre-fight physical examinations over the weekend and was declared fit to duke it out with Joshua Clottey on March 13 in Texas.

Pacquiao trooped to the San Pedro Medical Center in San Pedro, California to have his reflexes and vital signs checked and according to sportscaster Chino Trinidad, easily passed the battery of tests that included a check on his blood pressure, eye-hand coordination and balance, as well as an eye exam.

Burger King, the Bert Lina-owned franchise, is returning to its old name – Air21 – in the coming PBA Fiesta Conference which starts on March 20.

Lina, whose Lina Group of Companies is a conglomeration of various business endeavors ranging from freight and cargo forwarding services to food production and other corporate services, made the decision after Burger King achieved its goal of becoming a household name in the quick service restaurant industry. Filipino-American and U.S. Olympic short track speed skater J.R. Celski, 19, was disqualified in a physical and contentious race today at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games being held in Vancouver, Canada.
